I shot a wedding yesterday with my friend Jeremy, so when I woke up this morning my body was strongly suggesting that I stay in bed. On any other Sunday I probably would’ve listened and stayed put, warm and comfy. I’m so glad I didn’t. This was exactly the kind of shoot that reminds me why photographing happy people is what it’s all about.


Becca and AJ invited me over to photograph their family. James, their oldest, met me in the driveway and proudly escorted me inside, where everyone was getting ready for “the photographer” to show up. Evelyn, the youngest, looked up at me and asked, “Who are you?” I explained that I’d be taking photos of them today. She immediately followed up with, “Can you send them to my Mommy?” I promised I would, which seemed to settle everything. Then we headed outside and got to work or more accurately, play.


We started with a few family group shots, then moved on to the fun stuff. Climbing trees, picking berries, riding scooters, driving pink Jeeps, and exploring every inch of their property. We found hiding spots, shared laughs, and even made a little time for photos of just Becca and AJ. In about an hour and a half, we captured a whole lot of love and joy.
