This wedding was a blast!
I kinda say this about every wedding don't I? This one was though, the weather, the location and oh boy, the couple. Yes, I talk a lot on my blog and social posts about how much I love photographing couples who are truly in love, but in my opinion, it is the most important part of great wedding photography. Any two people can be dressed up, made pretty and posed on an epic background, but that doesn't make great images. That makes eye candy. Great images come from genuine connection and true emotions that just can't help but bubble to the surface. Take these two amazing people who got married last weekend in the mountains of Pennsylvania. Arica and Luke were constantly with each other all day long and when they were they were holding hands, up against each other and having a great time enjoying each other's company. I have dozens of photos of them paying attention to each other in subtle ways, like listening to their stories, making eye contact and laughing at each other's jokes. They enjoyed each other in a comfortable way that not everyone does. I will now present to you the evidence...
From their first look I knew that Arica and Luke were going to be an easy day for me. They spent close to 10 minutes under the willow tree oohing, aahing, talking and laughing. I always tell a couple to take as long as they need. I am not going to stop them if they look like they enjoying the moment. My job is not to be the schedule master. I am there to take in the moments and be present so that I can be ready for all of the little surprises that I hope will end up being their favorite image.
As a documentary photographer with a quarter of a century under my belt, you would think that I would start to get a little jaded and lose the passion for these sorts of images, but I haven't. A wedding is one of the most perfect opportunities for me to capture the peak moments of what it means to be a human on this planet. The love and connection of a couple, a family, parents and children. These relationships are the reason I do this work.
Did you seriously make it all the way to the bottom!? I may have posted a bit more than I usually do, but this wedding was just the best. If this is the kind of thing you are into and want me to photograph and then overpost your photos? I can handle that. If so, pop me an email and let's get talking about your ideas.
